CGHS Scheme FAQs

The CGHS also known as Central Government Health Scheme is a type of health plan provided by the Central Government.
Only Central Government employees are eligible for this health policy.
These include Supreme Court judges, Railway employees, etc.

The CGHS has been around for more than 6 decades and covers hospitalization expenses for policyholders. Alternative medicine like homeopathy and ayurveda are also covered under this plan.

Corona Virus Advisory to CGHS Beneficiaries

CGHS beneficiaries, who have tested positive for coronavirus infection are permitted to buy one pulse oximeter per family.

In case there are more than one coronavirus positive cases in a family if CGHS beneficiary, they can claim reimbursement only for one pulse oximeter.

I doN’T want to avail CGH facility as it is nearly 200 km from my native place how can I stop deducting money for ECHS Scheme

CGHS contribution is compulsory. Therefore, working and retired central Govt employees can’t cancelled the scheme.

After releasing from empanelled Hospital of nursing care is recommended from the hospital where the patient was treated then the cost of nursing care at home is reimbursable under CGH scheme

Addition & Cancellation of Names in Card

If death of the key card holder,
The card becomes disabled and New card has to be requested for by the spouse after he/she starts drawing the family pension.

Documents required for Addition of Members

  • Covering Letter from Department.
  • Addition form forwarded by Sponsoring Authority with seal & signature.
  • In case of Birth, A copy of the Birth certificate have to be given.
  • Dependency Certificate for dependent family members from Sponsoring Authority.
  • CGHS card copy.
  • 3 Passport size photo.

Documents required for Deletion of Members

  • Covering Letter from Department.
  • Deletion form forwarded by Sponsoring Authority with seal & signature.
  • In case of Death, A copy of the Death certificate has to be given.
  • Original CGHS Plastics card of person to be deleted to be surrendered.
  • CGHS card copy.
